Meditation may not be the answer

"It's not a race". If you live in Australia you may recognise the significance of those well intended but unfortunately timed words uttered about the current vaccine rollout. In the business world every day can be a race, either against customer deadlines or predatory competition, and speed can cause errors and errors can cause rework which causes the need for more speed which …. you get the picture.

You need an off ramp. Meditation is an option but a more immediate and practical solution is to return to the source of the problem and prevent errors from occurring in the first place. That requires measurement, analysis, improvement and ongoing monitoring and control, all of which are the essence of that old but often forgotten friend, DMAIC. (Define-Measure-Analyse-Improve-Control)

So don't panic and grasp at the first thing you see, but work through the problem methodically and improvement will materialise. You don't need an epic project, as short and frequent ones are generally a better way to keep up with problems that arise. Then you can get back to the meditation ….. Om
